Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and Co. will become the "Thunderbolts*" in the upcoming MCU blockbuster. Does the asterisk in the title perhaps indicate an Avengers twist?
Yes, you read that correctly: The next MCU blockbuster after the upcoming “ Captain America 4: Brave New World ” is actually called “ Thunderbolts* ” – with an asterisk in the title! This has caused wild speculation in fan circles since the official announcement by Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige , with one theory quickly emerging as the favorite:
The asterisk in the title "Thunderbolts*" is meant to indicate that this is not the final title of the film and that there may be a title change at the end of the film - or a change in the team name. The Thunderbolts could become the Dark Avengers , similar to what happened in the Marvel comics and similar to how the series " The Falcon And The Winter Soldier " was renamed "Captain America And The Winter Soldier" at the end.
Black Widow ( Florence Pugh ), Red Guardian ( David Harbour ), Taskmaster ( Olga Kurylenko ), US Agent ( Wyatt Russell ), Ghost ( Hannah John-Kamen ) and the Winter Soldier ( Sebastian Stan ) could initially be active as a team named after US President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (formerly William Hurt , now Harrison Ford ). But at some point they will break away from him and/or the shady team leader Valentina Allegra de Fontaine ( Julia Dreyfus ) - and finally rename themselves the Dark Avengers or a similar Avengers team.
Until then, the former MCU villains and anti-heroines must first complete an important mission for Ross and de Fontaine, which will cause some friction within the team before they come together in tried and tested “Suicide Squad” fashion (and probably in the truest sense of the word).
The character Bob ( Lewis Pullman ) also plays an important role ; behind his inconspicuous facade lies the Marvel hero Sentry, who is endowed with god-like superpowers but plagued by psychological problems. See More
